LIDAR DRONE DATA COLLECTION'S ADVANTAGE FOR SURVEYORS
Drones equipped with LiDAR technology are especially useful for surveying vast or densely forested sections of land. LiDAR can more quickly create a point cloud of only existing ground than conventional techniques since it can pass through vegetation through gaps in the tree canopy and reflect the surface position back to the drone. High-end LiDAR equipment on a drone can cover up to 500–750 acres of land in a day in large, open spaces devoid of trees. LiDAR data is electronically combined with GPS technology to create a digital representation of the data collected, which professional surveyors can use to build a variety of deliverables for their clients.
A remote sensing technique called LiDAR (light detection and ranging) can detect things and places in the real world while precisely measuring the earth's surface. Drones with LiDAR and other equipment can detect millions of light beams from an object's surface to determine its size and range. In order to build a digital file known as a point cloud, the data is electronically combined with GPS technology and information from the drone's inertial measurement unit (IMU). The point cloud can subsequently be transformed by a qualified surveyor into a variety of outputs, such as contour files, 3D maps, etc.
